46 – A Piece of the Action

Summary

Kirk, Spock and McCoy find themselves on a planet based on the Chicago mobs of the 1920s – complete with mob bosses, machine guns and everything. How will they get out of it alive?

Commentary

This is a fun episode, even if it is a bit cheesy. I like how Kirk improvises his way out of the situation on the planet. Spock seems to have a hard time with the improv, but you can tell the actors are really enjoying themselves. It’s one of the better episodes they made.

Of Note

There was an episode of Next Generation that had a similar premise. In the episode called The Royale, Riker, Data and Worf discover a planet where the conditions have been artificially created to match the contents of a book.
