13 – Dear Doctor

Summary

Dr. Phlox receives a message from one of his human friends who is working on the planet of Denobula. In his response, Dr. Phlox tells his friend about discovering a new humanoid species that seems to be suffering from a rare disease. The odd thing is that this humanoid species is only one of the two humanoids native to the planet, and the other humanoids do not suffer from the same disease.

Commentary

Actually, this episode really isn’t that bad, well, if you consider only the content and the subject matter. But it’s very distracting to have this particular story told in this way. We’ve seen it before in TNG when Data talks about Keiko and Miles O’Brien’s wedding. Here, it’s nothing new and just shows how poor and uncreative the Star Trek writers have become.
