139 – Child’s Play

Summary

The four Borg kids plus Naomi Wildman are having a science fair on Voyager, judged by Captain Janeway and Seven of Nine. Then we find out that Janeway has found Icheb’s parents and that the ship is on its way to rendezvous with his family. For obvious reasons, Seven does not want to let him return to his family. After seeing the conditions of his family, Seven believes Icheb could have a much more fulfilling life on Voyager.

Commentary

After at least 6 sub-par episodes, we finally get one that can be a little thought-provoking. At first, we think this is just going to be another episode about former Borg drones returning back to their families, but it turns out to be much more than that. The twist at the end of this episode is a doozy. I can’t believe people would actually think about doing this with their kids. But I guess if you’re tired of being attacked by the Borg, you’ll do just about anything to help protect yourself.

Jeri Ryan is proving to be the best actress in this series. She has the most scenes and typically puts the most effort into her emotions. She does a great job here as well.

Overall, this is a very interesting episode and one that I can recommend.
