12 – Silent Enemy

Summary

While flying in space, the Enterprise comes across a very mysterious alien spaceship. It does not respond to any of their hails or communications, and it is impossible to scan anything about them. Meanwhile, Lt. Reed is about to celebrate a birthday, and the Captain wants to do something special for him.

Commentary

Personally, I liked this episode quite a bit more than most of the rest of these things. The music was excellent, and it complemented perfectly the foreboding sense of mystery that surrounded the new aliens and the storyline.

I really liked the personal touch of Lt. Reed’s birthday. It was very nice to watch the Enterprise crew meet a hostile force and work to combat it. The only downside was the special effects – the aliens looked especially fake.
